Fulfilling the Promise of a Cleaner, Greener Tomorrow

Municipal solid waste (MSW), everyday household trash and garbage, consists of items such as product packaging, grass clippings, furniture, clothing, bottles, food scraps, newspapers, appliances, paint, and batteries. Statistics show that in 2005, U.S. residents generated approximately 4.5 pounds of waste per person per day. That's more than 245 million tons of MSW in a single year!

Although great strides are being made to reduce the amount of waste being produced, there is still an immense amount of garbage being sent to landfills. Even incineration facilities that inefficiently burn waste to generate energy produce an ash byproduct that must be landfilled.

The US EPA states that, "Currently, in the United States, 32 percent [of MSW] is recovered and recycled or composted, 14 percent is burned at combustion facilities, and the remaining 54 percent is disposed of in landfills." PWR offers an environmentally sound and technologically advanced waste-to-energy solution for the disposal of MSW that can make landfills a thing of the past.

PWR's plasma gasification technology can also be applied to convert any carbon-containing feedstock into clean energy and valuable byproducts. These include biomass, biosolids, coal, tar sands, hazardous wastes, and petroleum refining byproducts.
